RCMP Criminal Record Check From Austria: Canadian Criminal Background Check for Applicants Outside Canada
Need an RCMP criminal record check from Austria? We convert your ink fingerprints into an electronic fingerprint submission, obtain certified Canadian criminal records from the RCMP and, if required, add an apostille so the certificate is accepted by Austrian authorities under the Hague Apostille Convention.
RCMP Certified Criminal Record Check Service in Canada and Outside Canada
The Legalization Service Centre is an RCMP-accredited private fingerprinting company in Canada. We digitize international ink fingerprints and transmit them electronically to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police through Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification Services (CCRTIS), the unit in Ottawa that maintains the National Repository of Criminal Records.
One of the first companies accredited by the RCMP for electronic fingerprint submissions, we are recommended by Austrian employers, immigration lawyers, universities and consulates for applicants in Vienna, Graz, Linz, Salzburg and Innsbruck. Our RCMP check process supports Canadian immigration and citizenship files as well as Austrian residence, work and citizenship applications.
Our service was designed for applicants outside Canada who need a fingerprint-based RCMP certificate rather than a name-based background check. Whether you are a Canadian living in Austria or an Austrian national who spent years in Canada, we provide a secure, verified path to your criminal record check.
Choose Us for RCMP Criminal Record Checks From Austria
- Select Your Processing Method: Courier your fingerprint forms from Austria, or visit our Ottawa office in person if you are in Canada. Both routes deliver the same certificate issued by the RCMP.
- Follow Detailed Guidelines: After choosing a route, you receive clear instructions on where fingerprints are taken, how to complete the consent form and which government-issued IDs to include so we can verify your identity before submission to the RCMP.
- Receive Your Results Anywhere: When the RCMP releases the certificate, we courier it to Austria or any other country. On request, we obtain an apostille from Global Affairs Canada so the document is accepted by the MA 35, an Austrian employer, a notary or a court without further legalization.

Get Your RCMP Certified Criminal Record Check From Austria (Online or In Ottawa)
If you live in Austria, have your fingerprints taken on the RCMP C-216C form by a local police service, a notary, an embassy or consulate, or an accredited company with an agreement with the local police. Some private providers offer mobile fingerprinting at your home or office, which is convenient outside Vienna. The RCMP does not accept photocopies, scans or live-scan printouts — we need the original ink form. Once it arrives, we digitize the prints and submit them electronically to the RCMP. If you are in Canada, in-person fingerprinting is available at our Ottawa, Ontario office.
Address: 440 Laurier Ave W, Suite 218, Ottawa, ON K1R 7X6

Fingerprints must be clear and high-quality — not smudged, faded, or blurred. All ridge details must be clearly visible on the form. Failure to provide clear, high-quality fingerprints may result in the RCMP rejecting the submission.
Fingerprints outside Canada can be taken by the following entities:
- Police Service
- Embassy / Consulate

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is a Fingerprint-Based RCMP Criminal Record Check, and Why Do Austrian Authorities Require It?
A fingerprint-based RCMP criminal record check is the only Canadian criminal background check certified by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Instead of a name-based search in police databases, CCRTIS compares your fingerprints against the national repository, so the result is tied to your identity rather than to a spelling of your name and date of birth. Austrian immigration offices, employers and courts ask for this certificate because a name-based CPIC check cannot confirm that no record exists under another name.
The certificate discloses criminal convictions in accordance with the Criminal Records Act. A record suspension removes a conviction; conditional discharges are purged after a set period; Youth Criminal Justice Act records are shown only where the law allows. A vulnerable sector check goes further and searches for pardoned sexual offences when the applicant will work with children or vulnerable adults.
How Does the RCMP Check Process Work From Austria, and Do I Need an Apostille?
Download the Application Package and complete the applicant information form, the RCMP consent form and our order form. Have your fingerprints taken in ink on the C-216C form — two complete sets — by a police agency, notary, embassy or accredited company. Email us the scans and two government-issued IDs for identity verification; once we complete verification, you courier the originals to Ottawa. We digitize the prints and submit them electronically to the RCMP, and each file receives a Document Control Number for tracking.
Austria and Canada are both parties to the Hague Apostille Convention, so Austrian authorities generally require an apostille on the RCMP certificate rather than embassy legalization. The RCMP certificate is a federal document, so the apostille is issued by Global Affairs Canada. We arrange it for you before shipping, and we can add a certified German translation if the receiving office asks for one.
What Is the Difference Between an RCMP Certificate and a Local Police Background Check?
A local police background check from a Canadian municipal police service or an RCMP detachment is name-based. The officer runs your name and date of birth through the Canadian Police Information Centre and local records, and you usually have to attend in person or use an online platform limited to residents of that jurisdiction. The result is not certified, may cover only one area, and is rarely accepted abroad.
The RCMP certified criminal record check is national, fingerprint-based and issued in Ottawa. It is the document Austrian authorities recognize and the only one that can be apostilled. Both documents confirm whether you were charged or convicted, but only the fingerprint-based RCMP certificate carries federal certification.
Who in Austria Typically Needs an RCMP Criminal Record Check?
The most common applicants are:
- Canadians applying for a Red-White-Red Card, an EU Blue Card, a residence permit or Austrian citizenship, where a police certificate from every country of prior residence is required
- Austrian nationals who lived in Canada and need proof of no criminal background for employment, professional licensing or a public-sector job
- Researchers, students and staff at Austrian universities and hospitals
- Applicants for Canadian citizenship, permanent residence or a record suspension who are currently in Austria
If you have been convicted of a crime in Canada, the certificate will show it; a clean result confirms that nothing disclosable exists in the national repository. Every applicant signs the RCMP consent form, and the certificate is released only for the stated purpose.
What Are the Processing Times for an RCMP Criminal Record Check From Austria?
Processing times depend on fingerprint quality, the accuracy of your personal information and whether your prints match a record. When no record is found, the RCMP typically returns the result within a few business days of electronic submission. Including courier transit from Austria, plan for roughly five to twenty business days. If a record exists, verification takes longer.
Rejected fingerprint cards are the main cause of delay — smudged ridges, a missing stamp or an unsigned consent form all lead to resubmission, which is why we check your scans first. If you need an apostille, add a few business days for Global Affairs Canada. Some Commissionaires offices in Canada offer in-person fingerprinting, but they cannot digitize forms mailed from Austria; that is exactly what our service does. From the first email to the delivered certificate, the Legalization Service Centre keeps every RCMP criminal record check compliant, secure and on schedule.
