RCMP Criminal Record Check From Germany: Canadian Criminal Records and Police Information Check Without Visiting a Detachment
Every applicant in Germany can obtain a Canadian criminal record check for citizenship, a visa, employment or a Führungszeugnis-equivalent request. We digitize your ink fingerprints and submit them to the RCMP through Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification Services — you never need to appear at a Canadian police detachment or run a CPIC search yourself.
RCMP Certified Criminal Record Check Service in Canada and Outside Canada
The Legalization Service Centre is an RCMP-accredited private fingerprinting company in Canada. We convert international ink fingerprints into digital form and transmit them electronically to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police through Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification Services (CCRTIS), which maintains the National Repository of Criminal Records in Ottawa.
Among the first businesses licensed by the RCMP for electronic fingerprint submissions, we are recommended by German employers, Ausländerbehörde caseworkers, relocation agencies and immigration lawyers for applicants in Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg and beyond. Our fingerprinting services support Canadian immigration and citizenship files as well as German residence, work and naturalization applications.
Our service was built for people outside of Canada who need certified criminal records rather than a standard police check based on name and date of birth. Whether you are a Canadian working in Germany or a German national returning home after years in Canada, you get a secure, compliant process from start to finish.

Get Your Certified Criminal Record Check From Germany (Online or In Ottawa)
Applicants living in Germany need ink fingerprints on the RCMP C-216C form. German police agencies do not always offer fingerprinting for private purposes, so many clients use a notary, a private fingerprinting company that has an agreement with the local police, or an embassy or consulate. Bring a letter or printout from our Application Package explaining the request — it helps the person taking your prints understand the format. Once we receive the original form, we digitize the prints and submit them to the RCMP electronically. If you are in Canada, in-person fingerprinting is available at our Ottawa, Ontario office during business hours, Monday to Friday.
Address: 440 Laurier Ave W, Suite 218, Ottawa, ON K1R 7X6
Don’t forget to bring two IDs (like your passport and driver’s licence) when you come for your appointment. Have questions? Just give us a call!

You'll get a fingerprint-based certificate issued by the RCMP. We digitize your ink-and-roll fingerprints and submit them electronically — you can be anywhere in the world.
In order to process the RCMP CRC certificate we need to receive from the clients their fingerprints taken on C-216C form or similar and other completed forms provided in the Application Package below.

Fingerprints must be clear and high-quality — not smudged, faded, or blurred. All ridge details must be clearly visible on the form. Failure to provide clear, high-quality fingerprints may result in the RCMP rejecting the submission.
Fingerprints outside Canada can be taken by the following entities:
- Police Service
- Embassy / Consulate

- Foreign private fingerprinting company with an MOU with a local police force or government department
Under "Reason for application", tick the option that matches your case — Visa/Waiver, Canadian Citizenship, Employment, Adoption, and so on.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is a Fingerprint-Based Criminal Record Check, and Why Do German Authorities Ask for It?
A fingerprint-based criminal record check is the only version of Canadian criminal records that the RCMP certifies. Rather than running the applicant’s name and date of birth through police databases, CCRTIS matches your fingerprints against the national repository, so the result is tied to your identity rather than to basic information that can be misspelled. German immigration offices, employers and courts ask for it because a name-based check cannot rule out a record filed under another name.
The certificate discloses criminal convictions in accordance with the Criminal Records Act. A record suspension removes a conviction from the report; conditional discharges are purged after a set period. Peace bonds, prohibition orders and outstanding entries such as charges and warrants may appear where disclosure is permitted. A vulnerable sector search additionally reveals pardoned sex offences for applicants who will work with vulnerable persons — for example, teachers, caregivers or people doing volunteer work with children.
How Does the Process Work When I Apply From Germany?
Download the Application Package and complete the applicant information form, the RCMP consent form and our order form. Have your fingerprints rolled in ink on the original C-216C form — two complete sets with the signature and stamp of the person who took them. Email us scans of the forms and two pieces of government-issued identification, such as a passport and a German ID card; we verify every field before you courier the originals to Ottawa.
When the package arrives, we digitize the prints and transmit them to CCRTIS electronically. Each file receives a Document Control Number so it can be tracked. The RCMP searches the National Repository of Criminal Records, issues the certificate and we forward it to you. We also confirm that the purpose — citizenship, visa, employment, adoption or record suspension — matches the consent form, because a mismatch is the most common reason applicants are asked to provide fingerprints again.
What Is the Difference Between an RCMP Certificate and a Police Information Check From a Detachment?
A police information check or standard police check from a municipal police service or an RCMP detachment is name-based. The officer runs your name and date of birth through the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and local records, and you normally have to attend in person. It is quick, but it is not certified, it may reflect only one jurisdiction, and most police agencies do not serve people who have moved abroad.
The RCMP certified criminal record check is national and fingerprint-based. It is the document German authorities recognize, and the only one that can be apostilled for use in Germany. Both types confirm whether you were charged or convicted; only the fingerprint-based version carries RCMP certification.
Who in Germany Typically Needs a Canadian Criminal Record Check?
The most common applicants are:
- Canadians applying for a residence permit, an EU Blue Card, a settlement permit or German naturalization, where a police certificate from every country of prior residence is required
- German nationals who lived in Canada and need proof of no criminal background for employment, licensing or a public-sector position
- Volunteers and professionals working with children or vulnerable persons, where a vulnerable sector search may be requested
- Applicants for Canadian citizenship, permanent residence or a record suspension who are currently in Germany
Each applicant must sign the RCMP consent form and provide personal details exactly as they appear on their ID. If you were ever convicted of an offence in Canada, the certificate will show it; a clean result confirms that nothing disclosable exists in the national repository.
What Are the Processing Times and Fees for a Criminal Record Check From Germany?
Processing times depend on fingerprint quality, the accuracy of your personal information and whether your prints match a record. When no record is found, the RCMP typically returns the result within a few business days of electronic submission. Including courier transit from Germany, plan for roughly five to twenty business days. If a record exists, verification takes longer.
Rejected fingerprint cards cause most delays — smudged ridges, a missing stamp or an unsigned consent form all lead to resubmission, which is why we check your scans first. Fees are invoiced by email once your documents arrive, and we accept Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Interac e-Transfer, money order or certified cheque. If German authorities require an apostille on the RCMP certificate, allow a few extra business days for authentication in Canada. Contact us with any question — from the first email to the delivered certificate, the Legalization Service Centre keeps your criminal record check compliant, secure and on schedule.
