Local Criminal Record Check by Toronto Police Service and Apostille Services
Obtain your police record checks with Toronto Police Service through LSC. Fast, secure, and reliable background checks and apostille services.
How Apostille Simplifies Criminal Record Check Certificate Authentication
When applying for a residency or work visa in another country or renewing your current papers, you must usually provide a Canadian criminal record check certificate with an apostille to be approved.
We provide three sorts of criminal record check certificates.
- Federally-issued
- Provincially issued
- Electronically issued
The nationally issued RCMP criminal record check certificate is processed at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Ottawa. It is regarded as the most reliable certificate because the criminal record search includes the applicant’s name, fingerprints, gender and date of birth. To receive this certificate, you must submit your fingerprints.
Toronto’s local police stations at the provincial and municipal levels issue provincial and electronic criminal record check certificates. These certificates are based purely on the applicant’s name and date of birth and do not require fingerprint submission.
Criminal record check certificates from Toronto, Canada, must frequently be validated or apostilled before they may be considered acceptable legal documents abroad. Additionally, the notarization of provincial criminal record check certificates is usually necessary first.
The verification process examines the official seal and signature on your certificate to confirm the accuracy of the information provided by police agencies, including criminal background facts. Countries under the Hague Apostille Convention, which exceeds 120 members, simplify the procedures by removing the need for embassy or consulate certifications of documents. As of January 11, Canadian documents can be apostilled under this convention, making international use easier.

Get Your RCMP Criminal Record Check
You'll get a fingerprint-based certificate issued by the RCMP. We digitize your ink-and-roll fingerprints and submit them electronically — you can be anywhere in the world.
In order to process the RCMP CRC certificate we need to receive from the clients their fingerprints taken on C-216C form or similar and other completed forms provided in the Application Package below.
To get started, select the “General” tab for most countries and the “Personal Use” tab if you need the CRC Certificate for immigration to USA.
1. Application Package
Start here. The package contains the full document checklist, Form #2, Form #3 and the RCMP identification requirements.
Everything must be completed without errors — mistakes and missing information delay processing.
▼ Application Package (General)
2. Form #1 (C-216C)
Have your fingerprints taken on the official RCMP C-216C form using the ink-and-roll method only — digital or live-scan printouts are not accepted.
We need two (2) complete sets, with all fields filled in and the name, signature and stamp of the official who took them.
Fingerprints must be clear and high-quality — not smudged, faded, or blurred. All ridge details must be clearly visible on the form. Failure to provide clear, high-quality fingerprints may result in the RCMP rejecting the submission.
Fingerprints outside Canada can be taken by the following entities:
- Police Service
- Embassy / Consulate
- Government Department
- Notary Public
- Foreign private fingerprinting company with an MOU with a local police force or government department
Under "Reason for application", tick the option that matches your case — Visa/Waiver, Canadian Citizenship, Employment, Adoption, and so on.

3. Form #2 (Third Party Consent)
Found inside the Application Package.
This form authorizes the RCMP to release your results to us.
Complete it, sign and date it, and place one fingerprint in the box — the form is not valid without it.
4. Form #3 (Applicant Information)
Found inside the Application Package.
Print clearly in CAPITAL LETTERS and double-check your name, date of birth and address — any typo here can delay or invalidate the search.
5. Consent Form
This is the official RCMP consent form that authorizes CCRTIS to search the National Repository of Criminal Records and release the results.
Read each section, tick every checkbox, then sign and date it.
Select the application type that matches your case — for most travel and work purposes this is Visa / Border Crossing / Foreign Travel / Work.
Without this consent the RCMP cannot process your application.

Please print clearly and include a working email address and phone number — we use them to send your invoice and any updates.
7. Send
First, email us scans of all completed forms plus PDF scans of your two government-issued IDs (at least one with a photo) and photographs of those IDs taken from different angles. The full list of acceptable ID is on the last page of the Application Package.
We'll review everything and confirm it meets RCMP requirements. Ship the originals only after we approve your scans.
Include two recent passport-size colour photos with your name and the date written on the back.
Courier to:
Legalization Service Centre Canada, 440 Laurier Ave W, Suite 200, Office 218, Ottawa, ON K1R 7X6
When your originals arrive we'll arrange a short video call to verify your IDs, then digitize your fingerprints and submit them to the RCMP electronically.
8. Pay and Receive

The fee is $125CAD per certificate + $25CAD RCMP fee (if applicable). Return shipping (as selected in the Order Form) and applicable taxes are extra.

After we receive the CRC certificate from RCMP we will courier it to the address you provided in the LSC Order Form.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why Might Your Criminal Record Check Certificate Not Qualify for Attestation?
While we have considerable experience with criminal record check certificate attestation and apostille services, some documents to be attested may not be eligible for authentication. Authorities may refuse attestation or apostille for a variety of reasons.
If your Criminal Record Check Certificate or related document does not have the original signature or seal issued by the proper department, it cannot be authenticated. Documents must have verified markings before proceeding.
Authentication is impossible if the issuing authority cannot verify the signature or seal on the document. This is commonly seen with out-of-date or unofficial markings.
Because official stamps cannot be applied on laminated or protectively coated documents, they may not be certified or apostilled. Ensure that your documents are unchanged.
Authorities may refuse attestation if there are concerns about the criminal record check certificate’s authenticity or intended purpose, such as the possibility of fraud or a breach of government laws.
Do You Need Notarization Before Acquiring Criminal Record Check Certificate Attestation?
Certain documents, such as criminal record check Certificates, may require notarization before being authenticated for attestation or apostille by a competent government authority. The requirement for notarization is determined by the type of document issued and the specific legislation in the location where it was prepared.
Do You Need Translation Before Obtaining an Attestation for Criminal Record Check Certificate?
Professional translators need to provide precise translations when the criminal record check certificate and its associated documentation are in a language other than English or French. The authentication process allows authorized entities to confirm the document’s contents accurately. The translation should consider that it may need time for precise processing and comply with the regulations set forth by the authorities.
Another option is to engage a Canadian notary who is fluent in French and English, as well as the language of your document. The notary must provide a specific endorsement that confirms their understanding of the document and verifies its contents. This endorsement links the official languages the authentication authority recognizes with the original language.
The most suitable verification technique is selected case-by-case for papers in various languages. Several factors are involved, such as the type of document, its intended use, and the destination country’s regulations. Following these protocols will help applicants prevent delays or application rejections when undergoing attestation procedures; when applications are submitted via postal service or contain incomplete information, it might cause processing delays, which leads to inconvenience claims.
How Long Does It Take to Complete Criminal Record Check Certificate Attestation?
By the end of September 2024, Global Affairs Canada will process Certified Criminal Record Check Certificates submitted for apostille within an average timeframe of 10 business days. Applicants should also consider an extra five business days for the return shipment of their documents.
Starting from January 11, 2024, provincial competent authorities have the power to validate all types of documentation, including criminal record check certificates. The time needed to process these services depends on the organization and department responsible for issuing certificates.
The Legalization Service Centre (LSC) provides quick service for obtaining your attested criminal record check certificate. The expert members of our team collaborate with their extensive network to optimize the workflow process.
What Are the Key Considerations for Criminal Record Check Certificate Attestation?
The expenses related to applying for a criminal record check can vary based on the issuing authority and the destination country’s requirements. For the most up-to-date information regarding fees, we recommend contacting our specialists.
Attestation or apostille is necessary for nations of the Hague Apostille Convention. Countries that are not members may need to adhere to the standard authentication and legalization processes for documents like the criminal record check certificate and other official documents.
While an apostille or attestation itself does not expire, the legal validity of a criminal record check certificate can be affected by the destination country’s regulations. Applicants should ensure they confirm these requirements before completing their travel plans.
